Adding A Scene

Visual storytelling telling is something that has been around for ages. I think in today's 21st -Century world visual learning is a great way for my generation to learn certain things.

The game Zeitgeist was a great story based game. You followed a soldier through the streets of history as you answer hard trivia questions based on where you are at. Yes indeed, Zeitgeist is a game that is a good way for us to learn about many interesting subject.

Video Blog Questions

These are questions that I answered in a Paper Prototype  Vlog

The Big Idea: Describe your team's game topic. What is the most important concept you want your players to learn?
My big idea is littering in the world. It is a serious issue. I want players to know about litter and dividing fractions. I want them to divide fractions as another way to learn something educational. By combining these two elements players can learn 2 important lessons.

Making Decisions as a Team: How did your individual ideas from "Imagining Your Game" come together for your team game topic? How did your team decide the topic?
With the info I gained in Imagining Your Game I learned about litter and my math concept. This helped pick my topic and imagine my game.
Roles & Responsibilities: Tell us more about your team process. Please each talk about your specific roles, and how you work together.
Well, since I am on my own team I do all the work myself. All the paper prototyping, projects, and everything in-between is done by me!

Research: What kind of research went into the way you will express the game topic?
I researched many articles and sites. It took me a while, but now I have a full understanding of what my game is about. So, since I know what needs to be known, I am prepared to begin the concept for my game. My best site was litterbutt.com.
The User Experience: Explain the game play. What actions does the player take in the game? Has this changed since you first started planning your game? Why?
Playing this game is fun and enjoyable experience. Players will first learn about the game and what it’s about. They will then pick a place in the world and clean that litter. After cleaning up, they must divide a certain amount of the litter they collected. You do this 3 more times until beat the game.
The player will have to avoid different obstacles such as skateboards and giant                       rocks to achieve the goal.
Mastering Flash: What Flash resources have been most helpful in your learning so far, and why? How did you locate these resources?
The flash code library and game design topics were the most helpful to me.
These are all available on the EGMS Wiki.

Overcoming Challenges: What curriculum topic has been most difficult for you so far? How did you overcome this difficulty?
The Mini-Game was difficult for me because I got lost in the making.
But, in the end I completed it.

Drawing a Scene

This blog is about something I learned in my research.
I learned of different groups of people against litter.
There were many groups including Citizens Against Litter, People Against Litter (a Facebook campaign), and many many more. These groups fight to keep the world clean. Although some are all thay are making a difference in today's litter-infested world!

Thanksgiving Break!!!

Boy, Thanksgiving break was fabulous!!!!!

Thanksgiving started with the parade! I have always loved to watch Macy's day parade!
Big floats and performances of all kinds! Then there was Snoopy dominating the skies!

Now it was time for preparations for the guests! Cleaning, sweeping, and cooking!
First came Uncle Jamie, then Mama, finally everyone was here! It was great time, having everyone in the house! Desserts galore, trifle, cookies, ice cream, and other tasty treats!
After food we chatted and then it was time for me and my siblings to go to my other grandmother's. After the brief visit we leave and go home.

Globaloria.........So Far

My Globaloria Page!
This year I joined Globaloria (obviously!). My teacher Mrs. Sheppard has led the way to a successful and fun year! I am really enjoying my class. It such a short period of time we have accomplished so much. Like a survey, a Mini-Game, and this blog just to name a few. We track our progress with our Learning Log and Wiki Page. It is so fun to put our pics and colors, and videos on our personal wiki page. Currently in Globaloria I am working on my game for the STEM competition.

All is going well in Globaloria..................

Imagining Your Game

1.WHO are you designing your game for? (Include the player's age, abilities, and prior knowledge of your topic.)
This game will be created for kids aged 11-15. Children that age should have a good understanding about the topics.
2.WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? (Be specific!)
I really wnat my game to go deep nto the topics. For Littering, I will show the different types garbage and the place where littering is a BIG problem. For Rational Dividing, the problems will get harder as the game goes on.
3.WHERE does your game happen?
Describe the world you will design for your game.
The world in my game will Earth. But, to make the game a bit more enjoyable and difficult, I will slightly exaggerate the amounts of garabage and litter. For Math I will have set in a classroom.
4.How will this setting add to the learning experience?
Well, the classroom is something a student can certainly relate to. And the an earth with litter definetly goes with my game and will teach students that this problem that is right in their own towns and cities.
5.HOW does your game world teach the player about your topic?
Becasue the classroom setting lets them know that rational dividing is something that you learn in school. The world, as stated before, show the player that the game setting is real and that this a issue that in their towns.
6.What happens in the world that helps the player learn?
In my litter game, it starts out as a dark and dreary city full of litter. but if you beat the game by cleaning the city of all the trash, the city turns nice and beautiful. For my rational division game, the classroom setting is something a student could relate to.
How does the player use what they learned to make something happen in the game?
When you learn about my topics, they can advance further. It will take a certain amount of knowledge to play my game. For example, each level will get harder, so the more you know the further you'll go.
WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz?
A game is much more enjoyable way to learn for students. Kids would much rather have a moving game to teach them, rather than looking at soem words on paper. I'm sure you will learn from playing my game.

Hey all! Well, the past few weeks my class has been working on our first game. It was a really humbling experience for me. I have learned an awful lot about the Flash program. We used tools and codes. It was difficult, but here is the finished product. Feel free to play the my Mini-Game!

Me First Scene

Below is the very first scene of my game. I spent a little while doing it but I think it looks OK. This is my first expierience with the Flash program. Mrs. Shepprard told all we need to know, such as the tools and tricks of the program. I guess you can see what my game is going to be about. I have learned that Flash can be a difficult yet fun process. I welcome any comments about my scene.

Why Am I Passionate About My Topics?

Litter-one of the worst of all environmental issues. This is a problem
that is still plagueing us to this day. I personally have seen the affects of litter. I used to live near an old dump full of bottles, cans, I even saw diapers! So, this is one of the many reasons I am so passionate about making game to raise awareness about litter in the U.S.

My Math Concept is about rational dividing. This is by far my most favorite type of division. I only learned it this year. But, with the help of my teacher and classmates I learned how work out problems involving fractions with division. Although maybe you don't enjoy or know how to divide fractions, I thoroughly enjoy it! In the end I learned that Math Is Fun!!!

Litter and Rational Division

Hello all, my name is Collin, and my Math Concept  and Social Issue are about rational division and litter. Now, on the right are some great websites I have and will be using to help me with my game. I highly recommend that you give them a look. One of the reasons I picked these topics is because I felt and that we should be kind to Mother Earth and that Rational Division is a key asset to learning about fractions.

Thank you very much for reading,

This Game!

The Globaloria game 'WV Animal Rescue Squad' is fun and educational. If you don't know how to take care of a cat, dog , or chinchilla, and you don't want to read a book, this is the game for you. It starts out when you get a call then you have to answer questions about a certain pet's health issues and help animals become better again. Although the game could have some more difficult questions, it is quite a blast to play! I recommend to anyone and everyone.

Internet Safety is a something we all need to learn. It is essential piece of knowledge. The Internet is a vast land of information. But, it does have some inapropriate content. That is why we learn about Internet safety. It is my firm belief that the World Wide Web should be used as a tool of knowledge.

An Intersting Site

My Social Issue

The issue I have chosen for my Globaloria game is litter. I believe that too much garbage is being thrown around. I picked this because I am particularly angered by folks not caring about the world we live. In today's world we don't care, but we need to start caring. If everyone cared like I do, this planet would be a much brighter place. We have too much garbage, and we need to get rid of it the correct way!
